Destination St Kilda Pier

The new, curved St Kilda Pier has attracted more than 350,00 visitors since it opened to the public in December 20241.

The St Kilda kiosk remains a star. The kiosk was destroyed by fire in late 2004 and faithfully rebuilt to the original 1904 design.

Sixteen new bench seats made of timber recovered from the old St Kilda Pier are positioned to make the most of the view back towards the city.

A welcome pavilion offers an arrival point and gateway to the Little Penguin platform. It’s subtle curves reference the kiosk architecture2. The access to the little penguin colony and management of visitation has been carefully considered in the design of the pier.

The terraces have been hugely popular for hanging out, sunbaking and swimming. No sand.

Fishers line the pier. St Kilda Pier rivals Princes Pier as a fishing destination.

There are variously curved platforms for sitting or lying on or looking at the view.

The St Kilda Pier was designed by JCB, Jackson Clements Burrows, with Site Office Landscape Architects with AW Maritime. The pier connects seamlessly with the St Kilda promenade, designed by the same team in 2009.

Parks Victoria is the pier manager. The project cost $53m.
